They are part of the posterior thigh region. They are vitally important in a wide variety of athletic activities, including running, jumping, and kicking, among others. Nevertheless, injuries to the hamstring muscles are extremely common in young adults, particularly among those who participate in sports and other types of physically demanding activities.
