Antibiotic Resistance in Children: A Critical Observation | |
Author Name Prof.Dr Jasmine Santha. J, Principal, S N College of Nursing, Rajasthan Abstract Antibiotic resistance (ABR) has emerged as one of the most pressing public health threats of the 21st century. This phenomenon occurs when bacteria evolve mechanisms to resist the effects of antibiotics, rendering these crucial medications ineffective. Among the most vulnerable populations to antibiotic resistance are children, whose immune systems are still developing. Antibiotic resistance not only complicates treatment but also increases the risk of prolonged illness, hospitalization, and in severe cases, death. In this article, we explore the intricate problem of antibiotic resistance in children, examining its causes, consequences, and possible solutions. Special attention is given to the inappropriate use of antibiotics, how it exacerbates resistance, and what healthcare systems, parents, and policymakers can do to address this growing concern.
