The hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis regulates thyroid hormone production through feedback mechanisms. Low thyroid hormone levels prompt the anterior pituitary gland to produce thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). TRH is produced in the hypothalamus in response to low thyroid hormone levels.
