BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight and is a critical factor in assessing the health risks associated with pregnancy. A healthy BMI ranges between 18.5 and 24.9, while values below or above this range are associated with underweight or overweight/obesity, respectively. This article explores the complex relationships between maternal BMI and the outcomes for both mother and child, examining the risks and health implications associated with underweight, normal weight, overweight, and obese pregnant women.
